Beau-T-Ful!!!

Hi everyone!  We’ve returned from the wilds of Africa (and New York City) a little road weary but armed with a tremendous experience (and a few thousand pictures) and memories.  I still have lots of things to do to get the photos arranged as I had a major problem with my portable hard drive that I stored my photos on (both operator and hardware issues).  In addition, I’m scheduled to have cataract surgery tomorrow morning so I’m a little preoccupied with that prospect.  Given all that, the trip was incredible and I’m anxious to share our captured moments with you!!

With all that we saw and experienced, its hard to figure out where to start.  So, as Julie Andrews sang in the Sound of Music, I’ll “start at the very beginning as thats a very good place to start”.  We flew from Cape Town to Johannesburg and then on to…

It took us all day to get there, stopping to ask villagers who only shook their heads, looked puzzled or pointed vaguely in some direction. One gentleman who said he worked for the press thought we were from the government and started a long list of complaints. It was quite clear that no one knew the place and no one went their either.

Where was it? Flat land extended for miles and this temple had 100 feet of steps so it should be visible from a distance. We finally found it, just as the light was fading, after driving through dusty, unpaved village streets where everyone stopped to watch us past and where they are probably talking about us still.

Then a hill loomed up not too far away.
